How to Add an M3U Playlist to Kodi with PVR IPTV Simple Client

Kodi plays IPTV playlists through its official PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on. Once configured, channels appear in Kodi’s TV section with groups and a channel guide if your playlist provides one.

What you need

  • Kodi on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, Android TV or Fire TV
  • An M3U / M3U8 playlist link

Steps

  1. Open the add-on browser

In Kodi, open Settings (the gear icon) → Add-ons → Install from repository → PVR clients.

  2. Install PVR IPTV Simple Client

Select PVR IPTV Simple Client and choose Install. On some systems it is already installed and only needs to be enabled.

  3. Enter the playlist link

Choose Configure. Under General, set Location to Remote path (Internet address), then paste your link into M3U play list URL and confirm with OK.

  4. Enable the add-on

Choose Enable if it is not already on. Kodi loads the channels; restarting Kodi helps if they do not appear right away.

  5. Watch

Go to TV on Kodi’s home screen. Channels are listed by group, and you can open any of them.

Try it in your browser first

No install needed. Doubo’s web player opens free live channels right away, and plays your own M3U links too.

Questions

Do I need any third-party add-ons?

No. PVR IPTV Simple Client is maintained by the Kodi team and is all you need for M3U playlists.

The channel list is empty. What should I check?

Make sure Location is set to Remote path, the link is complete, and the add-on is enabled. Then restart Kodi.
