How to Watch M3U Playlists on Apple TV

Apple TV has no built-in IPTV player, but you can AirPlay channels from Doubo on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, or use VLC for tvOS.

What you need

  • An Apple TV on the same network as your iPhone, iPad or Mac
  • An M3U / M3U8 playlist link

Steps

  1. Option 1: AirPlay from Doubo

Open a channel in Doubo on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, then choose your Apple TV with Screen Mirroring (Control Center on iPhone and iPad, the menu bar on Mac), or with the AirPlay button when the player shows one.

  2. Option 2: install VLC on Apple TV

Open the App Store on Apple TV, search for VLC and install it.

  3. Open the playlist in VLC

In VLC, open the Network Stream tab and enter the playlist link. VLC loads the channels.

Questions

Is there a Doubo app for Apple TV?

It is on the roadmap. For now, AirPlay from Doubo on iPhone, iPad or Mac is the easiest way.

Does AirPlay keep playing if I lock my iPhone?

Screen mirroring stops when the phone locks, so keep it unlocked, or use VLC on the Apple TV for long viewing.
